Cheers

On Thursdays for eleven years we tuned into Cheers, the sitcom about a group of barflies and the staff that kept us coming back every week because it felt like seeing your friends every week.

You can pick up the Cheers complete series on Blu-ray (affiliate link).

Synopsis

Cheers is a classic sitcom set in a cozy Boston bar where “everybody knows your name.” The series revolves around the lives of the bar’s regular patrons and employees, each bringing their unique quirks and humor to the establishment. Owned by former baseball player Sam Malone, the bar becomes a gathering spot for an eclectic group of characters, including the pretentious and witty Diane Chambers, the sarcastic waitress Carla Tortelli, and the lovable know-it-all mailman Cliff Clavin. With its witty dialogue and heartfelt moments, the show explores themes of friendship, love, and the ups and downs of daily life.

Over the course of its eleven seasons, Cheers delves into the relationships and personal growth of its characters. The on-again, off-again romance between Sam and Diane serves as a central storyline, while subplots feature the hilarious antics of Norm Peterson, the bar’s most loyal customer, and the staff’s various misadventures. Through its humor and charm, the show captures the essence of community, making it a beloved and enduring staple in television history.
